With their victory in Super Bowl LI the New England Patriots have become a great example of Mental Toughness by a team. Everyone has learned it is not over till it is over even though the rest of the world thinks it is. It cost a Canadian tennis player, Eugenie Bouchard, a date because she tweeted the Falcons had won, before the Fat Lady sang!!
Mental Toughness is not developed overnight. It is not something one can call upon sometimes. It is a trained or developed habit. It is always controlling your brain to believe positive things are going to occur or are occurring. It is training your thought process to do what is right at all times, to do your best regardless of the situation. It is always competing as long as the contest is on going. For most of us, that contest is life. Train your mind to believe in the positive, to see good in all that is happening and you will be surprised how often what your mind can perceive you can achieve!
As a young teen start on it. Learn to say No, to the things your peers do that you know your parents do not approve of. Be strong enough to do what is right, even when you want to do the "fun" or "cool" thing. Mental Toughness requires courage. leading requires courage. You cannot please everyone all the time but you must please yourself all the time!
To win, at anything, you will have to overcome adversity, at some point in time. You have no chance without Mental Toughness. Start early and practice it always, so it becomes who you are and a part of your being.
